ABOUT TOM SINNETT

Tom Sinnett on stage at the Queens Hall, Narberth, with Jodie Marie

Tom is based in Cardiff, UK, and has been a working professional musician for over 20 years. He is experienced in many genres of music, including rock/metal, pop, funk, soul, blues and jazz.

He is also well-versed in different guitar and bass guitar techniques and methods such as fingerstyle, slap, tapping and pick playing, as well as improvisation, theory, sight reading, studio recording and more.

Tom has experience teaching all age groups and levels, from beginners to advanced players. He believes that cultivating a love of music is the most important thing, especially for children or beginners.

Formerly a member of cult British band Tankus The Henge, he is also an experienced studio and live session musician and arranger.

Tom has been the long term bassist for Welsh Music Prize nominee Jodie Marie for over 10 years, appearing on 2 albums and numerous singles, as well as working on recordings and tours with Smith & Brewer, Martin Harley, Gethin Pearson (Badly Drawn Boy), Toby Couling & Dan Smith (The Noisettes) and Mercury Prize nominee Ed Harcourt.

He has a BMus (Hons) Degree in Jazz from Birmingham Coservatoire, UK, specialising in Bass Guitar and Double Bass, as well as Composition and Arrangement. Tom is a former student of John Rodge, Joe Hubbard (teacher of Pino Palladino), Mark Hodgson (Bill Bruford), Fred T Baker and Arnie Somogyi.

ABOUT LESSONS

During the first lesson with a new student, Tom likes to discuss their musical interests and aspirations to tailor the lessons to their needs.

Tom plans his lessons carefully to ensure that they are both challenging and enjoyable, and offers both in-person and online learning via Zoom. He teaches from his very welcoming home studio in Cardiff, or can visit students in their homes by arrangement, in Cardiff and surrounding areas.

For information on prices, please visit the Contact page.

To get the most out of Tom's teaching, it's recommended that students have a lesson of at least 1 hour, every week or two, and practice regularly at home.

Over his career, Tom has gathered teaching experience in schools and colleges, music services, and through private lessons. As well as tutoring GCSE and A Level students, Tom has entered students for Rock School, Trinity and ABRSM practical exams and ABRSM Theory. He doesn’t like to force students into exams though, and will only enter them at their request.
